Job Description

Provides oversight of a team responsible for the planning, administration, and support of technology applications. This includes the management, design, development, implementation, training and maintenance of databases, vendor provided software, software as a service, and other solutions which support litigation activities and administrative functions. May perform some duties directly.

Works with consultants and management teams in the firm to determine which applications and software are most appropriate for specific projects. Plans for the purchase or development of solutions.

Uses advanced project management skills in order to prioritize and direct the assignment of work and projects to realize firm goals for the group.

Leads issue resolution efforts when support software is not performing as expected, which may require external vendor support.

Plans for the sustainment and maintenance of solutions

Develops staff through mentoring, formal training, and on the job development opportunities.

Prepares all budgets for the group. Creates cost/billing estimates.

Conducts evaluations of software and its installation to see if it meets firm needs and standards and can be integrated into the system successfully.

Ensures that the solutions developed in the group are matched to the correct software in order to achieve the desired result.

Ensures team is trained and prepared to administer and support solutions.

Travels occasionally to firm locations outside of the Kansas City area to educate personnel in other offices about solutions the group can offer in their specific situations and to plan how to realize these goals.

Tracks time in specified intervals, billable and non-billable, and collects the time records of all timekeepers in the group.

Submits the group's time records as scheduled.

Participates in the firm's disaster recovery team.

Oversees the group to be sure that the performance and quality of work product from the group ismeeting the needs and expectations of the firm.

Provides after-hours support to users throughout the firm by being on call 24 hours a day periodically.

Communicates courteously and professionally by phone and in person, using very good communication skills.

Supervises the Applications Development team, the Systems Administrators and the Database Administrators. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in computer science or a related discipline; or five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. In addition, two to three years' experience managing technical professionals is required. Advanced level technical expertise in the areas of document management, systems administration, database administration and operating system functionality. High level of knowledge of network operations, system administration/management, applications administration/management and PC hardware and software. Systems include Legal Apps, DM/Windows, Windows 10, Windows 2008 Server and Windows XP Pro. Proven skills in maintaining computer system network and application or hardware platforms in a system administration and system management capacity. Understanding of end user needs to increase user efficiency.
