What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Computing Systems Professional Level 3 or Level 4, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities apply, outlined below, if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Computing Systems Professional 3: $96,100 - $159,000

Do you have Windows or Linux System Administrator experience, or Active Directory administration experience, and other experience in various IT disciplines? The Special Security IT and Cyber Operations Group, SSO-3, with Los Alamos National Laboratory, has a place for you in a position tiled Computing Systems Professional 2 or 3. This Professional will be operating in a customer-focused environment with four teams supporting Engineering, Enterprise, Operations, and Cybersecurity. These teams come together to support our intelligence community mission needs.

Daily responsibilities will include:
  • Technical leadership in design, implementation, and operation/maintenance of storage area networks (SAN), and storage appliances
  • Technical leadership in design, implementation, and operation/maintenance of various computing technologies such as Active Directory, VDI, Windows 10, Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Eagerness to dig into problems and develop resolutions
  • Effective ability to create automated systems using Powershell, BASH, and Ansible
  • Provide superior communication and teaming skills when providing services to customers.
  • Answer users' technical questions and taking corrective action when necessary
  • Work effectively in a team environment, providing leadership, task prioritization, assisting and mentoring fellow team members, and participating in continuous process improvement efforts
  • Assist in developing training materials for computer troubleshooting and user instructions
  • Interact with customers and peers in a professional and responsive manner, including mentoring, coaching, or giving presentations
Computing Systems Professional 4: $105,700 - $176,400

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level additional experience is necessary in leading and managing technology teams for implementation of advanced solutions. Render top-level ability to interface with customers to produce high performance computing systems, and distilling customer requirements and providing a path to quick success is paramount.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Computing Systems Professional 3:

Technical Expertise
  • Advanced knowledge of hardware and operating systems including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client/server principles.
  • Experience performing advanced client/server administration in the Windows environment including Windows 10, and Windows Server.
  • Proficiency with network operations and management
  • Proven experience with the use and execution of authentication methods such as Active Directory and Kerberos; and standard network protocols, especially NFS, and CIFS.
Hardware/Storage Management
  • Extensive experience with the Installing, configuring, and setting up complex server installations and troubleshooting server problems.
  • Expert knowledge architecting and configuring large storage appliances.
Policy/Configuration Management

Advanced knowledge of group policy, Active Directory infrastructure management, and system configuration management methodologies and tools including scripting tools.

Communications/Teaming
  • Proven effective customer services skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively and efficiently within a team environment.
  • Proven ability to Interact with senior internal (Triad) and external (Federal) executive leadership.
  • Ability to obtain a DOE Q/TS SCI clearance.
Training/Certifications:

Advanced vendor certification (RHCSA, RHCE, Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE), VMware, NetApp) preferred.

Additional Job Requirements for Computing Systems Professional 4:

In addition to the requirements outlined above for Level 3, these are the qualification for Level 4:

Technical Expertise
  • Expert knowledge of hardware and operating systems including system architectures, network infrastructures and client/server principles
  • Extensive experience with DISA STIG or CIS system hardening on either Windows or Linux platforms
  • Expert ability to manage data center systems, from environmental controls to IT architecture design and implementation
  • Expert knowledge of virtualized systems (networks and desktops) and operation of these systems to enable customer success
Hardware/Storage Management
  • In depth experience with installation, configuration, and operation of complex server environments at multiple federal classification levels
  • Expert knowledge of configuration, implementation, and operation of big data storage systems
Policy/Configuration Management

Expert knowledge of group policy, Active Directory infrastructure management, and system configuration management methodologies and tools, including scripting tools

Communications/Teaming
  • Work proficiently in a dynamic team environment, contributing to the collective success of the mission
  • Provide leadership for development and implementation of technical solutions
  • Superior conflict resolution skills, as well as instructional skills
Training/Certifications:

Advanced vendor certification (RHCSA, RHCE, Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE), VMware, NetApp) preferred.

Education/Experience for Computing Systems Professional 3:

Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, applicable advanced vendor and/or professional certification is desirable.

Education/Experience for Computing Systems Professional 4:

Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, advanced vendor and/or professional certifications are highly desirable and post graduate course work may be expected.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Active DOE Q/TS SCI clearance, transferable clearance.
  • Experience administering Windows, UNIX and Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers and desktops.
  • Knowledge of project management principles to set project scope, schedule, priorities, and deliverables

Clearance: Q/SCI(Position will be cleared to this level). This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
