Job Description
The primary function of a Quality Assurance Technician is to ensure the integrity of quality and food safety products throughout the manufacturing process by utilizing various standards and established testing methods, standard operating procedures, and adherence to protocols and policies. A critical goal of this function position is to support and assist the Quality Assurance Department and site operations team in all aspects to drive the continuous improvement of quality in the Stepan, Maywood Plant. Provide leadership and technical support with an emphasis on consumer requirements, continuous product quality improvement, and productivity requirements.
Essential Duties:
This position involves a combination of visually monitoring various aspects of plant operations, or physically obtaining samples and testing in the quality laboratories
Perform all applicable analytical tests on raw ingredients, in-process and finished products
Prepare testing solutions, equipment calibrations, general maintenance, and upkeep of the laboratory
Assist in identifying and managing HOLD & restricted inventory products
Reviews and maintain a master list of instruments, calibration of instrumentations, ensures that instruments do not get out of calibration, and primary person to set up and send out instrumentations for calibration
Maintain the current master list for Sanitation and Cleaning Chemicals with Safety Data Sheets. Verify and check batch manufacturing records, cleaning, & sanitation records in real-time before the product is shipped to the customer
Inputting work order requests for lab & facility during, and after inspections of regular services from the audits
Continuously improve plant GMPs through daily inspection and regular audits of the plant
Assist management in the implementation of procedures, protocols, and policies, and monitoring for compliance of such as ISO 9001:2015 and GFSI audits
Perform data entry on QA database and assist management in data trending
Identify quality, procedure, and policy deviations; effectively report such deviations and provide accurate information on time and as needed
Provide leadership in our continuous improvement plans
Provides technical assistance to production personnel as needed
Maintain a safe work environment for all employees
Other duties deemed necessary by the site management
Qualifications
Minimum of 1 to 3 years of quality assurance experience within food, beverage, or dietary supplements manufacturing environment required
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, detail-oriented
Capable of making a sound decision and teamwork skills are essential
Computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheets
Provide a safe work environment through auditing of working conditions
Familiar with GMPs, Pest Control, Food Defense, SOPs, and FDA-regulated environment
Ability to follow written procedures and established test methods
Effective oral and written communication skills
Must have the ability to work with diverse groups of people with varying levels of education, expertise, and backgrounds
General knowledge of production processes, food lab instrumentation, laboratory test methods
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and have good organizational skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to perform office and data entry work
Ability to perform some physical lifting up to 50 lb
Must be willing and able to work shifts
Must be able to work flexible hours as needed
Education
A bachelor's degree is required in Chemistry, Biology or Technical Sciences
