We are seeking a Software Architect for Distributed Data-driven Systems for our Princeton, NJ location. This job will help Siemens to build fast and reliable data-intensive systems across domains and businesses. You will constantly face different challenges in different environments so we require someone who not only possesses the technical skills but also a willingness to never stop learning!

At the core of Siemens business are complex software-intensive systems generating huge amounts of data. Siemens power plants, factory automation, building automation, power grid control, and others depend on harvesting relevant data where it is generated and efficiently process the contained information to derive valuable insights for our customers. In this role, you will design such systems to fulfill their purpose with high performance and industrial-grade quality. You will embrace cloud-to-edge concepts and utilize the toolbox of modern software architecture to solve challenges across Siemens businesses and domains.

The Challenge:
  • Guide Siemens Business Units to build reliable, performant, and maintainable data-driven systems
  • Design and build distributed and scalable cloud-based data-intensive systems
  • Evaluate solution alternatives that involve different architectures, design patterns, and frameworks
  • Support the transformation from on-premise monoliths towards cloud-based software systems
  • Participate in software architecture reviews and work with business units to improve their software architecture.
  • Scout state-of-the-art software engineering methods, tools and trends and apply them to customer challenges
  • Identify high-impact research topics in intelligent systems architectures
  • Perform research, development and consulting projects collaborating with colleagues, customers and universities.
The Candidate:

Qualified candidates will have:
  • MS in Computer Science or related field with 3+ years of relevant experience. PhD preferred.
  • Strong theoretical and practical experience in systematic software engineering and software architecture
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration technology.
  • Hands-on experience in designing cloud-native systems (e.g., AWS, Azure, ) and designing communication in systems spanning levels from the cloud down to small IoT devices.
  • Experience in evaluating and improving the performance, scalability, reliability, and robustness of large industrial-grade software systems
  • Excellent communication skills and technical leadership.
  • Strong, hands-on coding experience for both compiled (e.g. C++, C#, Java) as well as scripting languages (e.g. Python, JavaScript)
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals and conferences is a plus.
